In the heart of enchanting North West Lancashire, I embarked on a Christmas escapade, determined to infuse the holiday spirit into every moment. Despite the unruly visit of Storm Gerrit to the United Kingdom, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to explore an indoor haven just outside the charming town of Lancaster—GB Antiques!
Stepping into the captivating haven for antique enthusiasts, I marvelled at GB Antiques Centre. With 120 individual dealers showcasing their treasures, it proudly stands as the nation’s largest indoor antiques and furniture centre, drawing a staggering 220,000 visitors annually.
As raindrops tapped on my car windows, the decision was crystal clear—no outdoor strolls today. Yearning for the excitement and warmth of indoor activities, I set my sights on the sprawling GB Antiques Centre, a treasure trove that had already captured my heart on previous visits.
Braving the howling Storm Gerrit outside, I stepped into a different world within GB Antiques. A labyrinth of 120 individual dealers awaited, each offering a unique spectacle. Despite the storm’s fury, my senses revelled in a feast of elegant porcelain, captivating paintings, and fascinating collectables. Time seemed to stand still as I lost myself in this indoor wonderland.
Familiarity did nothing to dull the excitement. GB Antiques, with its ever-changing inventory, promised me a fresh adventure. From Victorian pine rolling pins to baskets of cookware items, every corner beckoned with the promise of discovery. Two to three hours felt like a mere blink as I indulged in the fascinating stories woven into each antique piece.
Within these walls of GB Antiques, I found solace and exhilaration. It transformed a wet and stormy day into a thrilling exploration of history and elegance. As raindrops persisted outside, my spirits soared, captivated by the timeless treasures that made this indoor escape an unforgettable Christmas adventure. Laurel and Hardy graced a bench while just around the corner appeared a life-size horse priced at around £6,000.00.
Entering this recently extended centre, conveniently set on one expansive floor, I found myself in a world of wonder. With an impressive 40,000 sq feet of space. GB Antiques housed a diverse collection of elegant porcelain, pottery, glass, paintings, and more. A true treasure trove for collectors and history enthusiasts alike. The collection of Automobilia items ranged from Antique to more modern recently made items. All the big car company names were represented on this stall.
Immersing myself in a world of timeless furniture, ranging from Victorian pine to Edwardian oak, and from mahogany to walnut, I discovered the unique offerings of 120 dealers. I could browse for hours, finding the perfect piece to complement my taste and style.
Whether my heart beat for paintings, porcelain, Deco, toys, fine arts, or furniture, GB Antiques Centre invited me to indulge my passions. The variety and choices were endless, ensuring there was something to captivate me at every turn. There were sections to entertain the children with lots of bygone comics and toys from the days when I was a boy.
GB Antiques Centre is open most days, except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. I eagerly planned my visit to this haven of history and elegance, ready to lose myself in a world of timeless treasures.
