It was a social hospital for the care of the sick and the poor. Founded in 1467 by Infanta Doña Beatriz, daughter of King Dionysius of Portugal. The hospital had two wards, one for men (with eight beds). Another was for women (with four beds), and it was intended to provide assistance to individuals whose illnesses were curable. Additionally, patients had to have received the sacraments to be admitted by the institution. Unlike other hospitals of the time, there was no set limit on the number of days patients could spend in the centre.

The building’s premises were structured around a central cloister from the 16th century, which is now entirely covered in vegetation. The original church was burnt down. The present church is a single nave structure with three sections covered by ribbed vaults adorned with Plateresque ornaments. It was constructed in the 16th century by Juan and Jerónimo Corral. Using brick, with a bell gable at the front and a three-panel apse. The porticoed courtyard consists of two stories with stone columns. The church can be accessed from the courtyard.
