The Tarragona Cathedral in Spain is not only a magnificent architectural masterpiece but also houses a wealth of art and history. Founded in the 12th century, the cathedral stands on the grounds of a former Roman temple, which was dedicated to Jupiter. Over the centuries, it has undergone numerous renovations and additions, each leaving its mark on the building’s history.

One of the most impressive aspects of the cathedral is its Gothic architecture, which is characteristic of the Catalan Gothic style. The façade is adorned with intricate sculptures, including scenes from the Bible and representations of saints. The interior features a central nave flanked by elegant columns that lead up to a stunning vaulted ceiling. Visitors can also admire the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, which houses a beautiful altarpiece created by the famous artist Jaume Huguet.

The cathedral has played an important role in the history of the city and region. It was the site of important religious ceremonies and played a significant role in the cultural life of Tarragona. In the 18th century, the cathedral was used as a military barracks, and during the Spanish Civil War, it was damaged by bombing.
Today, the Tarragona Cathedral is a popular tourist destination and remains an important religious site. Parking in Tarragona
We found a car park that charged one Euro for a day’s parking. The location was good as it was only a 10-minute walk to the Cathedral.
In Tarragona, there are various parking zones designated by different colours on the road. White, Green and Blue. The white parking zones indicate free parking areas. Residents can park in the green zones. Blue is Pay-and-display Parking, allowed for a limited time. Usually up to 2 hours.
If you’re looking for free parking in Tarragona, then white zones are your best bet. The white zones are normally furthest away from the centre. To secure a space arrive early.
